What is 'Serial'?
Back in 1999 in Baltimore County, Maryland, Hae Min Lee disappears one afternoon. Her body was later discovered, she had been strangled. The number one suspect? Her ex boyfriend, Adnan Syed. He was arrested and a year later sentenced to life in prison. His case was largely based on the one of Adnan's friends, Jay. But even after years, Adnan claims he had nothing to do with Hae's murder. The creator of the podcast, Sarah Koenig, sorts through endless files of papers and tapes, in order to figure out what really happened on that January afternoon.

Guilt vs. Innocence: the american justice system
When deciding whether someone is guilty or innocent, there could many stories being told that could influence your decision. You could be innocent, but if there is a witness that telling a story that is consistent and with enough details that keeps the jury on edge, you could be proven guilty. On the other hand, you could be guilty, but if their is a minor detail that might make you seem innocent, you could be left off.
Storytelling
In my opinion people often to believe stories based on how convincing it sounds. If a story is well told, people are more likely to be intrigued by it. Therefore they are more likely to believe someone who might be lying. Why is it that people believe? Because that is what we do, and often we won't change our believes because we are so engraved that we think is correct.
