WEEK 1:
Describe your project or internship. What are you excited about? Nervous about?
I am currently completing my externship at high tech high media with our sports director, Michal Lynn O’Kelly. It has been going good so far, especially because i am not working alone but with friends too. We start our day at 9:30 and work off of a list that has been put together by ML of various jobs. We do stuff like creating certificates, organizing jerseys, to putting together sports banquets. Again, it has been going good, we get a lot of freedom which makes it nice. And to be honest I’m not very nervous about what is to come, we all get along very well and can ask each other for help if we need it.
Describe a new skill or new knowledge that you acquired this week while in externship.
Well to be honest, it has only been a week so there hasn’t been much that i have gained. The only real thing I can say that i have “gained” is knowing how to really organize. I know putting away jerseys away in bins and the storing them away sounds easy, but if you could see the closet full of jerseys that ML has, you’d be surprised. First we have to record on a spreadsheet the type of jersey and number, this we have to do become those jersey’s will be reused in the future. If they need to be washed we do that as well. Then we do that for every sport and every level of the sport. They are then put away.

WEEK 2:
Evidence of Growth
Well to be honest I am not a sporty person and i don’t follow any sports. And to my surprise i ended up in an externship that obviously revolves around sports so that has been quit a challenge. There are times where we have to create schedules or make certificates, and most of the time i am clueless. But the good thing is that I surrounded with great people to are always willing to help. Instead of taking on those harder tasks by myself, i tend to work with one of the other interns. Which is great because now we are getting through our list of jobs much quicker. And to be honest, i feel like i have a little bit more of knowledge on sports, and the hard work it takes to be a director.

How have you added value to your externship? How have you contributed to the work place so far?
here is a video that gives you an idea of what a day looked like at our externship
WEEK 3:
Describe how a specific skill you acquired in high school was valuable in your externship. How did you learn that skill? How were you able to use it? Or perhaps was there is a skill you needed but didn't have. How did you deal with that?
I think that one of the good things about going to high tech high is that we learn through projects, we collaborate with one another but also find ways to work on our own. When it comes to working with a group, we bounce of ideas with each another, everyone gets an input And then when it comes to working by yourself, you are getting prepared for the real world because you won't always have someone there to help you. So relating that back to my externship, I have used my teamwork skills to work along with my group and getting stuff organized. A good example of our teamwork is when we were getting ready for our spring sports banquet and had lots of work to get ready for it, and only having 3 days to get it all done. So we decided to split the work. I decided to work with Marlene, we created about 500 certificates. While Aaron and Clarissa decided to document all the jerseys that had been turned in.
WEEK 4:
Reflect on how this experience is influencing your college and career paths.
here is my mind map that includes pros and cons about working with sports
WEEK 5:
Reflect on what you are grateful for with regards to the externship. What people have been helpful and supportive? Who would you like to thank? What experiences have been really valuable? What about the 4 weeks are appreciative for?
A thank you note: walking in i remember how nervous i was but also how excited i was to spend 4 weeks with great friends. This was going to be the time to get out of my comfort zone and work in a place i’d never see myself go near, literally i never wanted to know anything about sports because i found them boring. But i hoped to get over that as time went by, and let me tell you, i did get over that feeling. And so my classmates and I got to work, working off of a list that had been given to us. We organized smelly jerseys, stressed about certificates, and fought over what we should eat for lunch. And this happened almost every single day. As time went by we seemed to all get a bit closer, this was a good feeling. Imagine having one last bonding moment with friends before senior years ends, it was great. I remember we were all a bit stressed because our spring sports banquet was coming up but unfortunately we only had 3 days to get ready, this is when i realized that teamwork was key as was communication. We split up jobs, helped each other, and got the job done right on time! Would i like to work in a sports related job in the future? Unfortunately, no. But if you haven’t noticed, this is a thank you note to my coworkers. Because thanks to them i found this externship experience to be one of the best experiences of my senior year!
Reflect on your externship experience as a whole. Begin to craft the narrative around your TPOL video. Think about the ways that you contributed to your externship, what you learned about yourself, and how the experience as a whole helped your grow.
